Few days back, a Finland based mobile development company “Jolla” ruled the headlines of all the major news publishing websites. The reason behind the overnight fame was the mobile operating system developed by them, which is foresighted as an ideal alternative to mighty iOS and king Android. “SAILFISH” that’s what they call their latest buzz in mobile OS world.

SAILFISH is a mobile operating system that is totally developed by the expelled team of Maemo and Meego developers (former Nokia Employees) that are currently using their brains under the caps of Jolla. Neither Jolla nor Sailfish are bind to any contract with Nokia and doesn’t have any of the rights to any Nokia products.

Let’s Make Things More Precise About Sailfish

Sailfish is a Linux-based Mobile OS (like iOS, Android) developed by Jolla for phones, tablets, TVs and other connected devices.

Multitasking is the most impressive feature of the Operating System, where you can simultaneously juggle between nine applications at a time without closing any. Home screen of the device running on sailfish can be packed with up to 9 parallel running applications, which can be managed without even “opening” them. On the other hand, apps in highly famed iOS and Android are paused when a user switches from one to another.

Easy to use interface and many other personalized preferences enable it to bravely compete against the established players like iOS and Android.

What About Apps and Games?

Flying high on the wings of Sailfish, Marc Dillon CEO Jolla expressed his faiths about soon bringing highly competitive mobile products to the mobile market. But, smartphones are all about Games and Apps, as they expand the utility of the device in era of multitasking.

As per Marc Dillon, for apps and games development, Jolla will be soon releasing SDK to support smartphones, which will include Jolla UI components, Sailfish handset application interfaces, Mer Core’s tools, Sailfish UI framework and Qt Creator.

He also suggested that as an alternative solution, one can develop an “Interpretation Layer” that permits Jolla phones to run most of Android app and games.

Fast Forward Facts About “The SAILFISH“:

  • Optimized for 9 apps at the time
  • Amazingly easy user-interface
  • Available for use with “multiple chipset technologies
  • No landscape mode for image view
  • Press long to close apps
  • Effortless and Nice Multi Tasking
  • Access multiple apps at a time on same screen

Interesting Basics:

Jolla (Sailfish) belongs to the land of legendary programmers and coders “Finland”. Finland is the birthplace of Angry Birds, the loved game on iTunes and Android ever, and Supercell, one of the fastest-growing game studios ever.

Jolla commenced it journey from a staff of around 50 in August that is expected cross 100 by the end of year. It has partnered with the largest mobile chain retailer in China, D.Phone and will mark the footprints with Sailfish-powered phones through its 2100 outlets.

Best Wishes To Jolla
